&pageText=Properly searching vehicles in a tactical environment involves:

•  Stopping the vehicle

•  Informing the occupants of the reason for the search

•  Identifying the occupants

•  Directing the occupants to get out of the vehicle

•  With the exception of the driver, directing the occupants to move to a place about
   5 meters from the vehicle and out of the flow of traffic where they can be watched

•  Directing the driver to open all doors and compartments, to include the ashtray,
   glove box, armrest, trunk and hood

•  Searching the vehicle in a sequenced manner

•  Releasing the vehicle to the driver if prohibited items are not found

•  Apprehending the offender(s) if prohibited items are found in the vehicle, and
   notifying your supervisor
